Traditionally, strong cheekbones have been considered
signs of beauty because they add to the definition of
the face and help improve facial harmony. In addition,
malar implants may give a more youthful appearance to
the face and can enhance the results of a facelift.
The implant is made of medical-grade plastic in a roughly
triangular shape. The incisions are done through the
mouth, the implants are surgically introduced and positioned
over the cheekbones, and stitched in place. Six days
later, the stitches are removed. This procedure can
be performed under local anesthesia. This procedure
may be done alone or in conjunction with excision of
fat from the cheeks.
